University of Florida College of Fine Arts School of Music and Theater Presents:

Agbedidi Africa Drummers

Agbedidi Drummers


   Drummers will beat powerful African rhythms that fill the air with energy and excitement at the Sunday Musicale season opener.

The Agbedidi Africa program was founded in 1995 at the University of Florida by faculty member Mohamed DeCosta, who is the featured musician at the performance. “Agbedidi” translates from the African Ewe language as “long life”. In taking on this title, the ensemble salutes the promise of a long and prosperous life for African music and dance in America. Agbedidi has become one of the UF College of Fine Arts School of Music and Theater’s most popular performance groups. Since 1995 more than 20,000 people have enjoyed performances from this high-energy ensemble.

Amelia Arts Academy's Instructors and Board of Directors Present:

Claude Bolling - Suite for Flute & Jazz Trio

 

When Claude Bolling first released his Suite for Flute and Jazz Trio on LP in 1976, it took the world by storm! With his collaboration of baroque and jazz music in this one musical piece, Bolling is considered the originator of "crossover" music. The Bolling Suite for Flute & Jazz Trio spent 10 Years on the Billboard ranking, and is now brought to you by musicians from Amelia Arts Academy's staff and board of directors.

Organ Concert with Dr. Tim McKee

Amelia Arts Academy brings back its founder, Dr. Tim McKee, for the rare opportunity to hear him in concert on the "King of Instruments". This will be a concert like no other!

A Celebration of Ireland

Celtic music is an ancient art that is still relevant in the modern world. We will celebrate this music with the Enchantment Celtic Trio, and an opening act of celtic music from 10-year-old violinist, Dalton Thrift.

Scott Watkins Returns From Carnegie Hall

His first trip to Carnegie Hall was in 1999, where Scott Watkins received a standing ovation. He returns to Carnegie Hall, April 10, and after he returns he will perform a selection from his program for a small audience in an intimate venue. Come see the pianist that Folio Weekly called "a polished player in his prime".
